Botanical in the Woods

Hello all! Spring is approaching Texas (finally) and it’s starting to warm up. I’m really excited to start busting out the shorts, light tops, and, of course, flower patterns. A trend that I’ve been absolutely loving for the warmer climate is the botanical flower print. It’s different from florals in that it features huge, bright flowers, but it may be a bit harder to pair with. So, I wanted to play up this beautiful pattern and style a botanical, Hawaiian shirt I thrifted from Salvation Army!

This is the botanical shirt! I can’t stress how many different ways you can wear this: buttoned up and tied ends like I’m showing, unbuttoned with tied ends, or casually unbuttoned with a top underneath, and etc. I got this shirt for around 2 dollars; I definitely recommend going to Salvation Army on Wednesdays when they have half prices!

I actually prefer to wear it unbuttoned, because it’s more casual. If I wanted to go for an 80’s vibe, I probably would have worn it buttoned up with tied ends like the first picture. Because the shirt is extremely loud, I wanted to balance the outfit out with a simple black crop top from Brandy Melville. If I was wearing shorts, I probably would have worn a medium wash or black with the shirt. Sadly, it’s still too cold for shorts. So, I went for my dark wash indigo Easy Jean from American Apparel. To finish off the look, I wore my nude sandal heels convey a “going-to-a-Mexican-brunch” kind of outfit.

Here’s a better look of the jeans and heels. Also, important note! How you style your hair is essential to the outfit, whether it’s straight, wavy, curly, up, down, in braids, etc, it all conveys a different vibe and can either complement or undermine what you wear. Since the shirt reminds me of Hawaiian, Hula dancers, I French braided my hair while it was damp from the night before to create beach waves. Straight hair probably would have been okay as well, but I don’t think it would have transmitted the same image.

Here’s the full outfit again with my head decapitated, and I’ll provide a list of everything I’m wearing:

Botanical shirt–Salvation Army

Black crop top–Brandy Melville

Indigo Easy Jean–American Apparel

Nude Wood Sandal Heel–American Apparel

Rose gold watch–Michael Kors

Navy circle necklace–American Apparel

Earrings–Altar’d State

I just wanted to add a note about the Easy Jeans as well. These are pretty popular, so I might as well do a small review of it. Basically. Everyone. Needs. Them. They are SO incredibly comfortable; I feel like I’m almost wearing leggings and I can seriously sleep in these. They are also INCREDIBLY FLATTERING on everyone I’ve seen them on. They make girls’ waists look extremely small but also highlight their natural curves. I’ll probably make a full post reviewing all my American Apparel pants one day!

Well that’s it for this post! Have a good week everybody!
